‘De Waterlelie’ is a primary school for special needs education (basic education offer and type 2 education). The school includes a kindergarten and primary school for children with a mild, moderate to serious delay in development. Because quite a lot of children come from disadvantaged families, the school charges almost nothing per school year (only swimming). As a result, the school is financially dependent on own initiatives and external support.
The school makes every effort to make it as pleasant as possible for its children. At the moment, they are constructing a courtyard and playground. The construction works are executed in phases in line with the available budget. The school opted for a green playground. There is always something to do on a green playground. Children no longer get bored easily and, as a result, are less inclined to start bullying others. A green playground also contributes to the children’s motor development. The environment stimulates physical activities. On the whole, children who play more and don’t get bored feel a lot happier.
