‘Het Ventiel’ is an organisation that wants to break the social isolation of people with early onset dementia by organising everyday activities. Activities that have been obvious for so long gradually become impossible because of early onset dementia. ‘Het Ventiel’ organises activities that, with a bit of help, are still possible. They offer individual activities with a personal buddy. On some days of the week, they also schedule group activities.
Het Ventiel now wants to set up an extra activity: music in all its forms. From making music to listening to and experiencing music. If words are disappearing, making and experiencing music may still offer some form of communication and contact. Research has shown that music therapy for people with dementia is effective in improving their social skills and emotional state and in reducing behavioural problems.
