Until there is a world without cancer, Kom op tegen Kanker fight and mitigate the disease and advocate for better cancer policies. To do that, they mobilise as many people as possible to get involved against cancer: as healthcare volunteers, campaigners or donors.
The 100 km run for Kom op tegen Kanker is a unique running event in which teams of four run 100 km together to raise money to fight cancer. One runner starts the event and another runner joins after every 10 km. They run together and reach the finish line together, covering 100 km in total. To participate in the 100km run, each running team need to raise at least 2,500 euros in start-up money. This way, the runners give cancer patients a huge boost as well as cancer research, which is necessary because every year 40,000 Flemish people are told they have cancer. Although cancer can be treated better and better, one in three does not survive the disease. Those who do survive cancer often experience long-term consequences, which is why the runners of the 100km run and Kom op tegen Kanker are helping out.
A group of Danone employees has taken part since 2019. The 2,500 euro registration fee is a large sum and a major challenge that undoubtedly deserves the support of the Danone Social Fund.
