Nature experience for all: creation and maintenance of footpaths

Proposed by Sara Telen

2000 euro

For over 50 years, the Limburgs Landschap association has been managing and protecting around 3,000 ha of nature in Limburg. As a green embassy, the association strives to further improve nature and create a healthy living environment for the future. It also invests in cultural and historical heritage. The least vulnerable natural areas will be opened up to the public, providing an ideal starting point for getting closer to nature.

The Tösch-Langeren nature reserve in Maaseik, part of the Limburgs Landschap, covers 250 ha, 130 ha of which is managed. Due to beaver activity, several paths are impassable. This project aims to restore these trails and build new ones to improve accessibility. We want visitors to be able to enjoy nature to the full again. Information panels will be installed to raise public awareness. Local volunteers and nature guides will help with maintenance. The aim is to enable more people to discover the beauty of Tösch-Langeren. The number of hikers has fallen from ±7,000/year to 2,000/year. During the Corona period, the number was 16,000. We're aiming for 10,000 hikers a year.
