Natuurpunt is an independent volunteer association that protects vulnerable, endangered countryside in Flanders. Natuurpunt Wevelgem currently manages 12.5 hectares of grassland in the Leievallei, Wevelgem. An 8.5-hectare woodland project will also start in Wevelgem in 2023. They also manage other grasslands including the Bankbeekvallei in Gullegem and reed beds in the Bergelendomein in Gullegem. In total, the Wevelgem volunteers look after 27 ha of nature reserve! Definitely worth the effort!
In order to maintain all this land, a contribution from the Danone Social Fund is a big support. The support will be used to purchase equipment such as electric brush cutters and a cutter bar for nature management projects in the Wevelgem nature reserves. In a nutshell, this support ensure greater biodiversity and the right kind of planting in the region of the Alpro manufacturing site.
