Setting up sports spot “Corridor” under Gentbrugge viaduct (E17)

Proposed by Fien Delannoy

2000 euro

Sportaround is an organization dedicated to providing sporting opportunities for all! Sport gives children the opportunity to develop in a positive way. Taking part in sport helps them feel better, improve their health, boost their self-confidence, discover their talents, build a group of friends, learn to deal with victories and defeats, and so on. With a team of 8 permanent staff and 50 volunteers, we are mainly active after school and during the vacations.

Under the Gentbrugge viaduct (on the E17), we're building a new temporary embankment. Corridor' is the name of the place where we'll be building several sports areas. It's an ideal springboard for bringing local residents together, encouraging them to take up sport and enabling them to take ownership of their neighborhood. This approach is often followed by sustainable (sports) commitments or projects. For example, we have already set up sports nests in three “focus” areas in Ghent, where +/- 800 children from vulnerable backgrounds come to play sport every week. This is an expensive area to develop, but with the support of the Danone fund, the association can already do a lot for lighting, storage, etc.
