In 1998, some enthusiastic ski instructors thought it was time to start a ski school for people with a disability. Together, they incorporated “Stichting gehandicapten op ski’s (SHOS)” and up to this very day, they are as SHOS active within this particular branch of sport.
SHOS is a non-profit foundation with the motto: Disability? No limitation! The purpose is to train every learner to become as independent as possible in skiing and/or snowboarding. In fact, SHOS is an ordinary ski and snowboard school that teaches special people. They make no exception whatsoever as to which disability the learner has: physical, mental or both.
The purpose of SHOS is to enable its skiers and snowboarders to practice their sport as independently as possible and, this way, increase their confidence in what they can do and to allow them to enjoy a ski holiday like anyone else. Every winter period, SHOS organises a ski week to Flachau in Austria. Without financial support, SHOS cannot exist. A helping hand from the Alpro Social Fund would therefore be very welcome.
