The Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is an inherited condition causing the connective tissues to be unusually stretchable. The skin of people suffering from EDS is often very vulnerable and wound healing usually is a very slow and difficult process. The joints of people with EDS are often unstable and dislocate easily. This instability goes hand in hand with pain and inflammations. Many people with EDS also suffer from a disturbed sense of balance, leading to frequent falls. The non-profit organisation Zebrapad (Pedestrian Crossing) wants to draw more attention to the disease and supports research into EDS by donating the revenues of their numerous activities to the Medical Genetics Department of the University Hospital in Gent.
